About

It all started back in year 2018 with a small group of friends who wanted to eat healthier! And to sprout was a game-changer! Almost every local bean can be sprouted, sprouting increases nutrition and protein significantly in a bean, and sprouts can be mixed in almost any dish!

Many of us had experimented with sprouting for many years, convinced about the additional health benefits when a bean or a seed germinates and become a living sprout. But there the issue was: the sprouting process was unpredictable!

Sometimes beans sprouted in 2 days! Other times it did not sprout at all, or had a foul smell. Sometimes matki and kala channa (black chana) developed firm and crunchy roots, but other times they just did not sprout well.

Buying ready sprouts from outside was also not best option as it’s unhygienic, and we also have no control over what quality bean is used. And purchasing ready sprouts normally works out to 3-4 X the cost of the actual bean!

So that’s how the idea of sprout-me TM was born!

We experimented with the right jar size that would produce the most uniform predictable sprouting! We tried 1000 ml jars, we tried smaller sizes, and finally settled for the sprout-me size which we believe is just right.

To sprout, the beans or seeds needs oxygen and they need moisture, so there had to be a simple way to drain excess water. We tried different draining methods, and after more than 15 trials with different lids we settled for the sprout-me design consisting of 332 individual perfectly sized holes, which lets out excess water and lets in enough air for the bean to become a living sprout!

We tested the right slant for water to drain best after rinsing – we did not want a separate stand that could be misplaced, so we built the stand in the lid! And we believe we got the right angle!

The result is a jar which is simple to use and wash, and produces crunchy, super tasty sprouts that our families love to consume! And yes, we found that almost every bean actually can be sprouted – experiment yourself and do let us know what works for you! Ideally we recommend you have at least two jars so several varieties can be sprouted simultaneously.

We are now on a mission to help everyone in India to understand how simple it is to sprout at home . And a large community of home sprouter's is forming! Follow for recipes and ideas on @homesprouter
