What makes Sprout-me unique?

What makes

Sprout-me unique?

The simple drainage design, the top lid ventilation, and the actual size of the jar! Beans and seeds need two things to germinate: oxygen and right moisture. Sprout-me™ takes care of both! Also unique is the simple two in one lid and stand. And if you want to sprout more than 2 varieties at the same time, simply use two jars. Size of each jar is 700 ml.

Before using the Sprout Me jar sprouting was a very tedious and messy process which involved using a cloth and washing it, and if not monitored properly then the sprouts would become sticky and smell bad. Since we have started using the Sprout Me jar we have also sprouted green vatana, chole, black masoor, black chana, methi.

I was not a very keen sprouter as it did not really excite, but with Sprout me Jar , I loved the glass design and simple to use and yet effective and hygienic, ventured into sprouting from moong daal to flaxseeds to methi seeds and even mixed lentils and beans and all came out so well and fresh .

Methi is a great seed to sprout! Its readily available for you to purchase and its rarely GMO or hybrid.

Seeds such as broccoli seeds, alfalfa and radish sprouts beautifully in sprout-me.

Our only concern with regards to sprouting seeds, is that it’s very difficult to obtain authentic

Non GMO / non HYBRID seeds in India. And most sellers are themselves not aware of the

source of their seeds and whether it’s a non-native hybrid seed.

We are yet to identify a brand of seeds that we believe is safe and ethical.

What type of beans should I use for optimum sprouting?
remove
add

It is unfortunately not easy to purchase perishable organically grown vegetables in India. But quality organic beans and pulses are readily available.

Sprouting is a way to eat organic and allow the bean to become alive! With all health benefits of germination.

Which beans are the most difficult to sprout?
remove
add
chickpeas (kabuli chana) and kidney beans (rajma) do not sprout if the bean is of large size. The smaller bean variety will sprout. It is ideal to rinse and drain thrice a day for chickpeas and kidney beans so that there is no bacterial formation. It takes 3-4 days for good sprouts to be seen.
Which is the best way to cook various sprouts?
remove
add
As sprouting breaks down the starches, the bean cooks quickly and best is to either steam, blanch or cook with minimal water via the absorption method. Using the microwave will dehydrate the bean, and sauteeing the sprouts directly will also destroy the tenderness. In certain cases (altitudes and climes), pressure cooking of larger beans is required.
Which is the ideal way to store sprouts and what is the shelf life?
remove
add
Sprouts made in Sprout Me jar are hygienic and strong. Moong, matki, chana sprouts can be stored in air tight containers in the fridge for 2-3 days. Seeds like alfalfa and methi when sprouted, will keep well in air tight containers in fridge for 6-8 days. Sprouted millet like sorghum is best used in 1 day and and sprouted finger millet (ragi) preserves well in fridge for 4-5 days.
Once the beans are soaked, do we have to keep the Sprout me jar in the refrigerator or at room temperature?
remove
add
The soaking and sprouting will happen at room temperature and not under refrigeration. As we rinse and drain the beans twice a day, the process is hygienic and there is less risk of bacterial growth, and the beans require room temperature to germinate.
Which millets are good to sprout?
remove
add
Sorghum (jowar) sprouts easily and is very sweet to taste. They grow good roots in 3 days. Pressure cook ideally as khichdi with vegetables or make upma. Finger millet (ragi) is also excellent to sprout. Ensure you rinse these small grains thrice a day and not just twice.
Do we need to sprout till roots have emerged?
remove
add
Soaking the beans for 7-10 hours is first and foremost the most essential step. After the rinse and drain twice a day technique, the sprouts will begin to be seen after 24 hours in a bean like moong for example. The longer the root you allow to grow, better the nutrition in the sprout. Ideally when the root is longer than the bean size, it is ready for consumption.
